CONTEMPORARY ART IN THAILAND: AN INTRODUCTION

Dr. Brian Curtin is an Irish-born art writer and curator based in Bangkok, where he has lived since 2000. He holds a Ph.D. in studio art from the University of Bristol, is currently a full-time lecturer at Bangkok University and programs and curates for H Gallery in Bangkok, as well as running H Project Space. Brian publishes internationally with magazines such as Frieze, Flash Art and Artforum.com and is a regular writer for Art 4D and the Bangkok Post. Curatorial projects include Dreaming in Public: Contemporary Art from India and Thailand for Gallery Soulflower in 2009, Sensational Selves: Thinking through the Human Body in Some Recent Art from Bangkok for the Art Center of Chulalongkorn University in 2008 and, with Professor Steve Dutton, Unspeaking Engagements, which traveled between Bangkok and Coventry University in the UK during 2009-10. Brian was the curator of the Southeast Asian section of the 2nd Chongqing Youth Biennale in China this year.
